Tune – Blaenwarn 8787d
Eve, the mother of all people
Eve, the woman of our past.
Placed, with Adam, in the garden
All they needed right at hand.
Not content with what was offered
Eve sought ways beyond the path.
Eyes wide open, seeking knowledge
Reached for truth within her grasp.
Lush and growing was the garden.
All needs met and nothing lacked.
Everything was theirs for taking
There was naught for which to ask.
Not content with what was offered
Eve sought ways beyond the path.
Eyes wide open, seeking knowledge.
Reached for truth within her grasp.
Bold and curious was the woman.
Tempted by the snaky guile.
Tree of knowledge, wisdom offered.
Took and ate, became exiled.
Not content with what was offered
Eve sought ways beyond the path.
Eyes wide open, seeking knowledge
Reached for truth within her grasp.
Now sent out, the two were banished.
Now their way was not so clear.
But without her daring venture,
We would not find ourselves right here.
Created by a loving presence.
Stewards of all life to be.
Eyes wide open, seeking knowledge
Reach for truth and set us free.

Nice poem.
But without Eve her daring venture, as you say “We would not find ourselves right here.” But contradictory to what you say next, we would have lived in the Garden of Eden, having a much better time than we do have now. Now we our bounded to the matters of life and having to suffer. At all times we would have been created by a loving presence as well to be “Stewards of all life to be.” and not because Eve disobeyed God.
What we now have to do is to have our “Eyes wide open, seeking knowledge” like you rightly write. So that we can “Reach for truth and set us free.”
That would be true if I believed in a literal garden of Eden, rather than it being a metaphor and a story of how ancient people wrestled with how evil came into the world.
